Dogs are a blessing on this earth. They're not only man's best friend but, in many cases, the world's most loyal and loving companion. It's no surprise that many people go out of their way to care for dogs. From their patience with children to their willingness to do anything for those who care for them, dogs are truly remarkable animals that deserve our love and attention.
A 90-year-old woman from Delhi, Mrs. Kanak Dixit, wakes up at 4:30 am every morning to cook for stray dogs in her neighbourhood. Her story has gone viral because, when asked if she'd ever been bitten by the stray dogs she feeds, she said, "I have never been bitten."
She says that when her granddaughter Sana got a puppy (Coco) a few years back, the entire family became so fond of it that they finally started calling themselves Coco's family. They also said that he became part of the family, and she began caring for him as her own.
When looking at a cute dog, everyone says, "he looks so cute," even Kanak reacts similarly, but the 90-year-old has a touching story behind it.
Mrs. Dixit says, "A few years back, my granddaughter, Sana got Coco, and it was just an ordinary day while I was working at home and cooking lunch. When I came out of my kitchen, I saw Sana's puppy sitting right next to me, and as soon as I went near, it started playing with me. I stared at him for about 3 minutes, he looked so cute, so I said, 'Kitna pyaara lag Raha hai (He looks so cute),' to Sana. For once, I thought, was it my grandson? It couldn't be because he's way too small. Then I realized that it was none other than Coco.
When she initially met Coco, Dixit said she did not respond well to him and was not very fond of dogs. But when Sana brought him home, she helped take care of the pup since it arrived at their doorstep. She says, "I help bathe him and clean his ears." She jokingly adds, "He sleeps in our bed, but sometimes he does not allow us to sleep. He eats whatever I give him and is an amazing dog."
But when asked if she ever wished he would not do things like eating scraps and chewing things in the house, she immediately replied that she never did mind this kind of behaviour, "We have never faced any problem as such. We somehow believe that he knows what is right or wrong and teaches us too. He is just like a kid."
Dixit reminisces getting almost bitten by one of the dogs while she was gardening, but due to her calm response to such situations, the pup never got nervous or afraid about it. "Nothing bad has happened till now, and we have been taking care of him for a long time," said Dixit. "I've never been afraid of him nor he from me." This 90-year-old's attitude towards stray dogs is just fantastic. Watch her in action here. Mrs. Kanak Dixit motivates more people to adopt strays, and hopefully, this story will inspire more people to feed and adopt stray dogs who need help and care.
