Training Your Pets To Face The Camera And Rule The Social Media
Couldn’t send your entries for our Pet Premiere League because your pet isn’t camera friendly? Can you live without taking pictures of your furry friend, that too when pets rule everywhere on social media? And doesn’t it make you feel bad when your friend’s pet poses like some model but yours just run away from the camera? Training your pets to pose for a camera especially when you want to be in the picture as well can be a typical job. So let’s get the job started sooner than later.
Work on the “SIT” Command
Getting a solid control over this will simplify the rest of the stages of teaching them. It’s hard for them to stay at a place. So, along with sit, teach them to stay at a place even if something distracts them. This is not one or two-time thing; it requires a lot of patience. Just like humans, pets too need a motivation to do anything. While training your pets, keep some treats at hand and every time the pet does well, reward them. They will learn faster this way. Once their butts learn to touch the ground and stay still, they are ready for the next stage.
“PAY ATTENTION” Command
Most of the time, dogs do not appreciate staring by others, they avert their gaze. Keeping in mind that the camera lens looks like giant eyes, it gets hard to get their gaze stuck towards it. If you are using a cell phone camera for clicking, things will be a little easier when compared to clicking with Digital camera or DSLR. At this stage, there is a necessity of some command that will make them look towards the camera. Here too, a lot of treats will be needed. Keep rewarding them so that they stay motivated and don’t find ways to ignore the routine.

Practice a Lot
As said earlier, training your pets require a great deal of patience from both- you and your pet. Work together very diligently at every stage and make sure you give them the appreciation they deserve. Sometimes, your pet may retract and try to ignore the sessions; this is where the treats work. Posing once or twice is bearable for them, but at the time of practice, they may need to repeat the same thing a lot of times. Do not force it on them. Only teach them the much they can and are willing to learn at a time. The duration of this process may become longer but your bond with the pet won’t be affected negatively.
Training Your Pets For the Selfie Sessions
Taking a selfie with your pets is a bit different from clicking their pictures. When you are behind the camera, the pet may pay attention towards it as you are there. While clicking a selfie, don’t force the pet if he doesn’t want it. Again, keep your treats ready.
Since the attention span of pets is low, be quick at clicking as soon as you get a perfect frame. Another important thing is to hold the phone at eye level because the pets cannot keep their eyes glued to the camera the way we do.
Overall, training your pets to pose for the camera can be a tiresome task, but great FUN! Also, once your pet gets a hint that he is going to get some huge amount of treats, it is a matter of his interest. So start teaching him and ensure your participation in Pet Premiere League next time! Happy teaching!
